The Druid's Journey
Interactive Fiction with a nod to Ian Livigstone's Fighting Fantasy books.
1. You are a young druid, exploring the ancient woods near your village. You have come to gather herbs for a potion you are brewing.
2. As you walk through the trees, you hear a noise in the bushes. You stop and listen, but you can't hear anything else.
Choice 1: Investigate the noise. (Go to paragraph 3) Choice 2: Continue on your way. (Go to paragraph 6)
3. You find a young deer caught in a snare. The deer is struggling and bleating in pain.
Choice 1: Free the deer. (Go to paragraph 4) Choice 2: Leave the deer. (Go to paragraph 5)
4. You carefully untie the snare. The deer looks at you gratefully and then runs away.
Continue to paragraph 6.
5. You continue on your way. However, you can't shake the feeling that you have done something wrong.
Continue to paragraph 6.
6. You continue to gather herbs for your potion. As you are about to turn back for home, you see a strange old woman standing in the path ahead of you.
The old woman is dressed in a long black cloak and has a long white beard. She looks at you with piercing green eyes.
She says: "You have a choice to make. You can either help me, or you can suffer the consequences."
Choice 1: Help the old woman. (Go to paragraph 7) Choice 2: Refuse to help the old woman. (Go to paragraph 10)
7. The old woman leads you to a clearing in the woods. There is a large cauldron in the center of the clearing, and the old woman begins to chant a spell.
You realize that the old woman is a witch, and that she is trying to use you to sacrifice to the forest gods.
Choice 1: Try to escape. (Go to paragraph 8) Choice 2: Help the witch complete her sacrifice. (Go to paragraph 9)
8. The witch attacks you. You must fight her to get away.
(If you defeat the witch, go to paragraph 11. If you are defeated by the witch, go to paragraph 12.)
9. You help the witch complete her sacrifice. She rewards you with a powerful magical amulet. However, you know that you have done something wrong, and that you may be cursed by the forest gods.
(Go to paragraph 11.)
10. You refuse to help the old woman. She curses you, and you are lost in the woods. You are eventually turned into a tree.
Game Over
11. You are rewarded for your good deeds. You are now a powerful druid, and you can use your magic to protect the forest and its creatures.
You Win!
12. You are cursed by the forest gods for your evil deeds. You are turned into a stone, and you are trapped in the forest forever.
